December 26th, 2009 New Class Schedule for 2010
We are adding a NEW Boxing program on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6pm. The class is 1 hour long and will be taught by pro boxer Tyshon Johnson. Details on how to join at the front desk or by phone at (925) 634-6958.

August 5, 2009 2009 Crosley Gracie Team River Rafting Trip Come joing the fun for the adult rafting trip for Crosley Gracie Academy students and friends.
THIS IS AN ADULT 21 AND OVER EVENT.
The rafting trip is more like a paddle and floating down the lazy American river (usually takes about 4 hrs). Enjoy the camaraderie, sun, music and good fun. June 09, 2009 Taylor McCorriston wins 2nd pro MMA fight
May 30th, 2009 at the first hybrid show (Muay Thai/ MMA) sanctioned in California, Crosley Gracie fighter Taylor McCorriston kept his undefeated
record intact by defeating yet another Cung Le fighter, Andrew Valladarez en route to a split decision.
The bout against Valladarez at the World Combat Sports Challenge was all McCorriston's wrestling, and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu that had Valladarez on his
back for all three rounds defending submissions and attacks.
Though McCorriston didn't get the finish, he said he gained a lot of experience, and
learned a lot about himself. "I really felt like I had some really good positions on him numerous times, but then the time would run out. I started
thinking that the refs and judges were against me with the fast stand ups, and a split decision?!... I've got to learn to just fight my fight, and
react well to adversity."
Taylor is looking to launch his own show which will be a fight festival held July 25th, at Treasure Island. The festival will feature 2 live bands,
food and drink, MMA apparel and clothing, plenty of crafts, a full Muay Thai card, and a full MMA card.

This summer, the Gracie Academy is offering a series of youth clinics designed to teach the kids the basics of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for street
self-defense and how to deal and diffuse confrontations at school.
This is a perfect opportunity for students of other martial art disciplines to learn the key techniques to become a well rounded practitioner
by studying the highest martial art in demand in the world today, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

“Crosley Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy hosted more than 50 matches between competitors ranging from 4 to 14 during the second annual CGJJA
Internal Kids Tournament. The caliber of all the competitors was impressive as spectators witnessed spectacular takedowns, reversals
and submissions.
The event also featured self defense demonstrations, a raffle, good food and team spirit. San Francisco explicit sponsored the
tournament and was on hand for pictures and poster signings. DeNova Homes also contributed to the success of the event and Marcelo
Castellani and his crew provided outstanding Brazilian BBQ”.

and Fire Games

We have just opened a class to help those
interested in the competition which takes place
in Santa Clarita on June 20, 2009. The class is
strictly gi-less, high paced and limited to law
enforcement officers only.
May 3rd, 2009 Congratulations to all
competitors at
2nd Annual CGJJA Internal Kids Tournament.
We had over 50 matches with kids ages ranging
from 4 - 14 displaying excellent takedowns,
reversals and submissions. The caliber of all
the competitors was very impressive. It was a
fun day of competition with an awesome self

May 1st, 2009 2nd Annual Kids
Tournaments Starts Tomorrow! (Weigh Ins Today)
The tournament is happening tomorrow and all
participants must weigh in today at 4:45pm.
Tournament shirts will be given upon weighing
in. The tournament starts at 10am with a Street
Self-Defense demonstration by Emma Smith, Ryan
and Riley Briggs, followed by the rules meeting.

March 30th, 2009 2009 Jiu-Jitsu Pan
American Championships Team Results
Congratulations to all CGJJA students who
competed this weekend in Carson, Ca. 3 out of
our 5 athletes who entered the competition
brought back to Brentwood 2 Gold and 1 Bronze
medals. Adam Dunkel won his
division
after 6 matches with over 90 competitors
fighting for first place. Ernest Melo won the
Gold at the ultra heavy weight purple belt
division. Ryan Murphy also did great and got the
Bronze in the very competitive middle-heavy
weight brown belt division. Great job by all who
competed and participated with their
preparation. Photos and videos will be uploaded
soon!

March 9th, 2009 More CGJJA Muay Thai
Competition Team news
CGJJA Muay Thai competition team had another
great showing this weekend. Ederic Llarena, Doug
Schneider, Ryan Woodward, and Omar Nijem made
their debut while Juan Pena and Jessica Yeley
continue to gain experience. Omar and Jessica
both won fight of the day awards. We want to
thank everyone who came out to support the team.
March 2nd, 2009 New promotions, 2009 Pan Ams and Muay Thai results
Congrats to Ivan Oseguera, Tucker Yeley and Jimmy Rivers for moving up in rank and getting promoted to yellow, yellow and orange belts respectively.
We are bringing our competition team to compete at the 2009 Pan American Jiu-Jitsu
Championships in Carson, Ca. We will be closed

Congratulations to all our fighters this weekend! Priscilla Rivers, Hector Perez, Jr. who took 3rd after winning a close fight in overtime, Juan Pena who took 1st place after winning the decision over 2 tough opponents and Jessica Yeley who's been showing improvement in every match. Great Job to all!!
Unfortunately, some of our fighters didn't get to compete. We showed up at 8 am ready to go, and by 3:30 only 4 of our 10 fighters had competed. Our team took a stand a left because of how poorly the tournament was running. Sorry to competitors that didn't get the opportunity to fight.
Taylor McCorriston wins
pro MMA debut At Cage Combat 10, Taylor
McCorriston made his pro MMA debut weighing in
at 135lbs against Cung Le fighter, Adam Antolin
who carried a 3-0 Muay Thai record and 3-0 MMA
record. Crosley Gracie blue belt, Taylor
controlled the fight in the clinch, scored
several takedowns and was also dominate on the
ground. The round ended with the two Fly Weights
throwing leather, and the crowd chanting "Ninja"
in celebration for McCorriston. The story of the
fight would be the Wrestling dominance and
Jiu-Jitsu experience that would completely
control the fight and earn Taylor the unanimous
decision victory in his pro debut! Congrats
Taylor!!!
Congratulations to Adam
Dunkel for winning his MMA debut
Last night at Travis Air Force Base in
Fairfield, after a tough first round, Adam
dominated his opponent and won by referee
stoppage in the third.
Adam demonstrated true heart after being hit
with some hard shots that threw him off balance.
He managed to get a takedown and finish the
first round striking from the guard. In the second round,
his opponent came out swinging hard again and
after a few exchanges Adam got a beautiful
double leg takedown. The fight went back up and
more exchanges were traded. Adam ended up on the
bottom and perfectly executed a reversal from
half guard to again, end up the round on top
throwing punches. In the third Adam scored some
nice combinations, a takedown and finished his
opponent in the corner with a barrage of
punches. His opponent didn't defend and the ref
stopped the fight. Very exciting match. Pictures
will be uploaded soon.

The Teen Muay Thai classes have started. Every
Wednesday at 4pm. Teens 12 to 16 years of age
welcome.
Helio Gracie passes away
It is with great sadness that we announce
the passing of the great icon and one of
the creators of Brazilian or Gracie
Jiu-Jitsu. Grand Master Helio Gracie
passed at the age of 95 years old during
his sleep at home, in the city of
Itaipava, in the mountain region of Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil. He may now join his
mentor and older brother Carlos in
heaven.
Gracie is survived by his wife Vera; his
sons Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce,
Relson, Robin and Rorion; his daughters
Rerika and Ricci, as well as numerous
siblings, nieces, nephews, and
grandchildren.

Royce Gracie
Seminar Royce will be at the school teaching a seminar
this coming Sunday, January 11 at 11am. Royce
made a name for himself after winning 3 UFC
tournaments in the mid 90's, beating up to 4
opponents in the same night, proving that Gracie
Jiu-Jitsu was the single most effective style of
martial art there is.
Royce took on all comers from all different
martial art backgrounds and weight classes,
Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Savate, Kung Fu, Judo,
Wrestling and Boxing. All of the matches were
ended by chokes or arm locks.
Don't miss the opportunity of meeting and
training with a legend and a pioneer of MMA in
the United States.

Holiday Schedule
The school will be closed December 24, 25, 28
and 31, January 1, 2, 3 and 4. Classes resume
January 5, 2009 with a new schedule. We are
adding more Muay Thai classes as well as 3 new
classes. Cardio Combat Conditioning, Wrestling
and Yoga. The new schedule will be available
later this week.

The Cardio Combat Conditioning class will be
taught by my Conditioning Trainer Fabiano Brasil.
Fabiano has helped me as well as several other
professional fighters prepare for our fights. He
has worked as a conditioning trainer for the
last 19 years and conducts a well established
business in Dublin as a personal trainer. While
in Brazil, he wrote articles for Martial Arts
magazines, including Gracie Magazine on fitness
and nutrition. He also worked at the Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs with
wrestlers, judo fighters, and Olympic lifters.
In 1995, he prepared Dr. David Budnick to climb
Mt. Everest. Dr. Budnick is a Cardio -Pulmonary
specialist in Colorado Springs
New Yoga Classes
Also NEW, a type of Yoga called Vinyasana Yoga
will be taught next Tuesday, December 22 at
7:30pm FREE of charge. This class is also open
to anyone to try out. We will announce the
definite class hours next week. Click here to read more information about the

Effective January 6th, 2009, each class will
also cost $15.
Year-end group

Congrats to all
the Muay Thai students that competed this
weekend. Raul Lucha, Jessica "Cheetos" Yeley, Johnathan
Larrea, John Kaanehe, Adam Dunkel, who
dismantled his opponent, Ian Summit, Juan Pena
and Jeff Maurer, who weren't able to compete but
were fundamental in their support to their
teammates. Everyone showed great techniques,
heart and respect. Thank you all for helping out
with your teammates, and also to those who came
to watch.
Classes in the new place start this Monday,
December 8th. The Grand Opening celebration
party is still set for this coming Saturday,
December 13! Bring all your friends and family!
Grand Opening
Celebration The day has finally arrived! We are happy to
announce that our Grand Opening celebration will
take place on Saturday December 13th!
The
new address is 3291 Walnut Blvd. Suite 140. The
new facility has 6000 + sq/ft filled with state
of the art equipment. There will be 2, 2100
sq/ft. mat areas, a custom boxing ring, 12 6'
hanging heavy bags, dressing rooms with lockers,
a shower room and a pro shop.
This is the perfect time to try out a class that
you have been thinking about but haven't made
the commitment yet. There will be food and soft
drinks for everyone.
On this day, we will be offering a kids class
for all ages starting at 10am. Local newspapers
will be there to cover the event as well.

Mat 1 - All ages Kids class and games. All
students can bring 1 friend each.
Mat 2 - Muay Thai class. We encourage all
parents interested in the Muay Thai class to try
it out for free from 10am to 11am. ($20 reg.)

Muay Thai Morning
Classes and new MMA Class!! We are offering a 2-week trial for those
interested in MMA classes. The classes are
taught Wednesdays at 6pm. Some of the concepts
covered by Professor Crosley are: Striking,
Striking to takedowns, Countering takedowns and
The Clinch, Fighting from your back and more.
The full class curriculum is available at the
school for viewing. (non-students must call for
appointment)
Starting Monday, November 3rd, we will be
offering Muay Thai morning classes on Mondays
and Fridays at 10am. We hope to see you train
more often!!

the US Open tournament in Santa Cruz. Ian Summit - 1st Place white
belt masters (Medium-heavy)
James Call - 1st Place blue
belt seniors (Medium-heavy)
Brandon Yciamo (Stockton
Affiliate) - 1st Place white belt juvenile
Instructor Ryan Murphy won his first match in
the Brown Belt Open weight class convincingly,
but due to an error of the timer staff table,
got his victory taken away.
It is a shame and very unfortunate the way
tournament staff handled the situation. This
type of occurrence is a big disrespect towards
the competitors and their teams.
It's Official! - We are
Moving! We are moving to 3291
Walnut Blvd suite 140 in the next few months.
This building is right in front of where we are
currently located. The Grand Opening date will
be announced soon.
The brand new facility will have over 6000
square feet of training space, changing rooms,
multiple restrooms with a shower, a boxing ring,
2 mat areas and state of the art equipment. We
will be expanding our class offerings, as well
as frequency. More information coming soon!

Belt!! Our Muay Thai head
instructor has just been promoted to the rank of
Brown Belt in Jiu-Jitsu! Steph has also been
training and competing in grappling tournaments
since 2001. Congrats Steph, well deserved!

Stockton - Grand Opening We wanted to invite all of
the adult Jiu-Jitsu students to join us for the
Grand Opening of our first school affiliate
Saturday, September 13th at 11:30am, in
Stockton, Ca. Professor Crosley Gracie will be
personally teaching the class along with school
representatives Ernest Mello and Chuck Walker.

The tournament was a great success! Congratulations to all competitors! All
of the CGJJA kids looked great and showed so much skill
and technical ability. It is very exciting to watch the
progress and sportsmanship of these athletes. We want to

are starting a women's rape prevention program that will
consist of 12 classes, one per week for a total of 3
months. Ladies 15 and up welcome! We are currently
accepting registrations. The program start date will be
posted within the next week.
The classes will be taught every Wednesday from 6 to
7pm. Women will learn strategic grips and escape
techniques with no strain or body impact such as; escape
from front and rear chokes, defense against headlocks,
how to resist against being pulled or pushed, escape
from various bottom positions and much more.

For the NYE Holiday, the school will be closed Monday 31st

Professor Crosley Gracie will be visiting the Rocklin Affiliate Academy November 21st for another 2
hour seminar beginning at noon. 
May 30th, 2009 at the first hybrid show (Muay Thai/ MMA) sanctioned in California, Crosley Gracie fighter Taylor McCorriston kept his undefeated
record intact by defeating yet another Cung Le fighter, Andrew Valladarez en route to a split decision. 
At Cage Combat 10, Taylor
McCorriston made his pro MMA debut weighing in
at 135lbs against Cung Le fighter, Adam Antolin
who carried a 3-0 Muay Thai record and 3-0 MMA
record. Crosley Gracie blue belt, Taylor
controlled the fight in the clinch, scored
several takedowns and was also dominate on the
ground. The round ended with the two Fly Weights
throwing leather, and the crowd chanting "Ninja"
in celebration for McCorriston. The story of the
fight would be the Wrestling dominance and
Jiu-Jitsu experience that would completely
control the fight and earn Taylor the unanimous
decision victory in his pro debut! Congrats
Taylor!!!
his opponent came out swinging hard again and
after a few exchanges Adam got a beautiful
double leg takedown. The fight went back up and
more exchanges were traded. Adam ended up on the
bottom and perfectly executed a reversal from
half guard to again, end up the round on top
throwing punches. In the third Adam scored some
nice combinations, a takedown and finished his
opponent in the corner with a barrage of
punches. His opponent didn't defend and the ref
stopped the fight. Very exciting match. Pictures
