The women's jiu-jitsu class is solely focused on
rape prevention techniques. According to the 2006
National Crime Victimization Survey, in that year,
there were 272,250 rapes, attempted rapes or sexual
assault in the U.S.
As described above, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu will not teach
you how to strike and kick as it can be ineffective
against an assailant who's likely to be bigger,
stronger and might hit back. Strategic grips based
on leverage and technique will allow you to get away
from holds whether you are on your feet or on the
ground, which is where most attacks occur. These
techniques are very easy to learn and require no
strength, power or coordination.
Besides learning key escape moves, you will learn
how to avoid panic response and develop the right
state of mind to create and recognize an escape
plan. Once you convince yourself that you know what
to do, the feeling of helplessness will be overcome
with confidence and provide you with the right tools
to get away in the right moment.
The ultimate goal of learning self-defense is to
transform the instincts you were born with into a
faster and more effective way to respond to a threat
when needed.
The class will start with a quick warm up and an
abdominal routine to help you strengthen your abs
and lower back. A few drills will be incorporated to
maximize your coordination and reflexes. You will
learn how to develop a better base, escape from
front and rear chokes and headlocks, resist being
pulled or pushed, escape from various bottom
positions and more.
The environment is very friendly and fun, you will
have a blast while learning!
