Crosley Gracie was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
son of Rosley Gracie and grandson of the founder of
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Carlos Gracie. He started training at
the age of 9 years old with uncle Grand Master Reylson
Gracie in 1988. In 1992, he went on to train at uncle’s
Carlson Gracie Academy competing in a internal
tournament held the same year winning his first
Jiu-Jitsu match.
In 1999, after 7 years competing and winning many
jiu-jitsu tournaments in Brazil, Crosley moved to the
U.S. to teach the gentle art in the USA, more
specifically in San Francisco, California.
In 2003, Crosley was awarded his black belt from cousin
Ralph Gracie and made his debut in MMA (Mixed Martial
Arts), defeating the very experienced Welterweight
Pancrase Champion,
Kiuma Kunioku (29-13-7) from Japan, by unanimous
decision at the
Pancrase 10th Anniversary Event in Tokyo, Japan.
In his second appearance in Mixed Martial Arts
competition, at the
Pride Bushido 5, also in Japan, Crosley went 2-0
with an impressive submission win against highly
regarded ring veteran,
Hayato Mach Sakurai (30-7-2), considered to be one
of the best and most exciting fighters in the world, who
was never submitted in completion before.
Since moving to the U.S., Crosley has been studying
Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai and conditioning to further
improve his fighting and teaching skills. He’s been
teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 10 years and has
created many local and national champions. Crosley is a
dedicated and innovative instructor who strives to help
his students find the key elements to have an overall
healthy lifestyle and an excellent quality of life.
